Jennifer Hart, LCSW-C
Jennifer’s career as a social worker began in 2009 when she started on her path to obtaining her masters in social work degree from the University of Maryland Baltimore. Starting with her masters level internship in the Anne Arundel County Public School System, Jennifer knew that working with young people would become a cornerstone of her career.
Supporting adolescents and young adults through therapeutic alliance is paramount to Jennifer’s belief that the most important foundation for lifelong happiness is laid during the formative years of a person’s life. Jennifer’s expertise with young adults continued when she accepted a position at Cape Counseling Services, LLC in Cape May, New Jersey. Jennifer honed her skills as an adolescent and young adult therapist by treating emotional disturbances and behavioral problems. Jennifer designed groups, facilitated family interventions, coordinated multidisciplinary care and supported motivated young people to achieve healthy change.
In addition to her work with adolescents, Jennifer’s skill in treating chronic and complex mental disorders in adults began during her second year of masters level interning with the Fairmount Behavioral Health System in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After graduating from her masters program at the University of Maryland Baltimore, Jennifer was offered a full-time position with Fairmount and continued the work she had begun as an intern providing intensive therapeutic and case management services for inpatient adult clients. Jennifer looks back on this experience as a formative development period in her career as a therapist, challenging her to expand her creativity, evidence based practice, and client-centered principles to meet the needs of this high risk population.
Jennifer continued her work with adult inpatient clients when she transitioned to Anne Arundel Medical Center in 2014 as part of The Pathways Program for addictions treatment. Coordinating groups, managing appropriate recovery discharge plans for her patients, and eventually obtaining a management level position increased Jennifer’s knowledge and skill for successful therapeutic interventions for dually-diagnosed adult clients.
Jennifer believes in the importance of a mind, body, spirit approach to counseling. She relies heavily on mindfulness-based interventions, creative expression, and cognitive behavioral theory to assist her clients towards lasting change. Jennifer is highly empathetic, non-judgmental, and goal oriented in her treatment approach. Her clients describe her as grounded, open, and efficient. When beginning therapy, Jennifer listens deeply to her clients and co-creates a plan for change that addresses the client’s goals and incorporates a large variety of holistic and evidence based approaches to growth. Jennifer treats the whole person with emphasis on lifestyle change including habits related to nutrition, exercise, stress management and self-care.
